About Sunil’s Home
The orphanage’s namesake, Sunil Kumar, is a living testament to the benefits of being raised in a local orphanage. After earning a degree in Computer Science and starting a Computer Learning Center, Sunil was compelled to help orphaned children.

Help came from around the world. Sunil began seeking photo-editing projects over the Internet to support his ever-growing family of children he had rescued from the streets. Owners of a Miami-based photo retouching and developing business, Carlos and Sandra, hired Sunil. They learned of the children Sunil was working so hard to support, and spoke with their close friends, now Sunil’s Home’s Executive Directors, Matthew Meehan, Rod Hildebrant, and Lynn Bauer, who created an organization to help the orphaned children.

After four years of fundraising, Sunil’s Home Orphanage was proud to unveil the opening of its 6500 sq. ft. Educational and Housing facility in July of 2010. Sunil, along with his wife Kittu, and our social work volunteers, lovingly devote their lives to raising orphaned children at Sunil’s Home, the only facility of its kind in the area. More than a refuge for up to 90-orphaned children, Sunil’s Home is a source of nutrition for all the hungry and malnourished children in the village.

A truly unique nonprofit, Sunil's Home Orphanage has no administrative expenses. 100 percent of donations and proceeds from A Night In Bollywood go directly to caring for the children. The board members underwrite all administrative and fundraising expenses. Sunil's Home was established in 2005 to address the critical, increasing needs of orphans in India where one in five children dies before the age of five.

Another Sneak Peek... only painting left!

We will be having our GRAND OPENING on January 19, 2010!! Until then, here is a sneak-peek at our progress...

We have ALSO added a small building on the back edge of the property with 3 separate rooms. One room will be a wash room with 2 washing machines and 2 dryers, another room will be for storage, and the third room is for a chicken coop.

HOLIDAY SEASON!

One of the items that was packed into the shipped container (mentioned below) was an artificial Christmas tree, and this year for the VERY FIRST time, the Children were able to experience what it was like having a Christmas tree with lights! Since there were no ornaments, the children blew up some balloons and used those as the bulbs. Thanks to donations from supporters like you, the children were able to have a big Holiday celebration with small presents, food and an extra special treat... a glass of Coca-Cola! You can see here in the pictures how happy they were to have the "fizzy cola." From everyone here at Sunil's Home, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sneak Peek at 2nd Floor Construction...

As previously posted, we broke ground with the construction of our 2nd floor in April 2009. With only 1 month left before the project is completed, here is a sneak peek at the progress so far! Upon completion, Sunil's Home Orphanage will be able to extend its services and accept up to an additional 40 children into care from the streets and slums.

The Container Arrived! THANK YOU!!

Coral Reef High School and The Early Development of Global Education (http://www.theedgeeducation.com/) teamed up for the EDGE Community Service Challenge 2009 to raise used clothing, school supplies, books, and many other necessities which were all sent to benefit the children in the orphanage. Thanks to the enthusiastic and caring students at Coral Reef High School, an entire 20ft container was packed to the brim! Incredible! The container arrived safely at the orphanage in late September, and the clothing and supplies were given out to 40 children, all excited to received "new" used clothing. In fact, Coral Reef High and The EDGE raised so many clothing items, we were able to distribute used clothing to homeless children outside our orphanage as well. Posted are pictures at Sunil's Home Orphanage just a few days ago when all the items were received. Countless hours were spent by volunteers collecting items, posting signs, and packing for shippment. *A special thanks to Amadeo at Afram Global for providing the shippment of all the items to India, Susan Bleemer at Catering the Event for the donation of all the bicycles and books, the students at Coral Reef High, and to The EDGE for coordinating this very special project. There are also 2 pictures of the packing process before the container left Miami. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WERE INVOLVED!

Over $70,000.00 Raised for Sunil's Home

PRESS RELEASE:
At its second annual fundraiser on February 28, 2009, Sunil's Home Orphanage raised over $70,000 to help the children in their care. The event themed, "A NIGHT IN BOLLYWOOD," was held at a transformed private estate on the Granada Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida. The South Florida community came together for "A Night In Bollywood" to address the plight of orphaned children in India, similar to the orphaned children from the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

"Slumdog Millionaire very accurately portrays the lives of orphaned children in India. It is wonderful that the film is raising awareness and encouraging people to help children who would otherwise be on the streets, living in disease-filled sewer pipes, fighting stray dogs for food in trash dumps, and running naked, without even shoes to protect their little feet. We thank everyone who attended our fundraiser and donated so generously to support the children in our care. We invite those unfamiliar with our organization to visit our website to learn more," stated Matthew Meehan, Senior Executive Director and Board Member of Sunil's Home Orphanage, and President of Consulting Solutions.

The event organizers estimate that over 1,300 people attended over the course of the evening. The silent auction included over 160 items andgift certificates from local and international businesses. "A Night In Bollywood" was sponsored by The Montague Rumley Group at Morgan Stanley, Mint Leaf Indian Brasserie, Berber Events, Southern Audio Visual, Catering The Event, Stacole Fine Wines, and The Ruden McClosky law firm.

"It was a fantastic evening packed with entertainment including exoticfire-breathing shows, aerial acrobatics, a live tiger and snakes, authentic Indian dance and musical performances, Bollywood videos, documentaries on the hardships of orphaned children in the streets, and special video messages from the children at Sunil's Home Orphanage in India. It was truly unforgettable event for a wonderful cause," said Sunny Mullick, Executive Director and Board Member of Sunil's Home Orphanage, and a Partner at the Ruden McClosky law firm.

Sunil's Home Orphanage is a charity that has no administrative expenses or salaries, and 100% of donations received goes directly to caring for the children that so desperately need our help. All administrative costs incurred and travel to and from India in running the organization come from the pockets of the board members themselves. A truly one-of-a-kind non-profit! Sunil's Home was established in 2005 to address the critical, increasing needs of orphans in India. Believing that every child deserves a loving home, warm beds, nutritious food, quality medical care, and the education needed for each child to reach his or her fullest potential, staff and volunteers of Sunil's Home commit their time, talents, and resources to help orphans transform their lives and the lives of future generations. We are currently raising the money needed to double the size of our facility, allowing us to double the number of children for whom we care. By this time next year, we will have taken 90 children off the streets of India. Sunil's Home Orphanage is a 501(c)(3)not-for-profit charity.

Welcome!
